Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – A 46-year-old man in Frankfurt has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison for drug smuggling. The district court in Frankfurt saw it as proven on Wednesday that he had smuggled two kilograms of cocaine and one kilogram of heroin from the Netherlands into the Rhine-Main area. According to the innkeeper, the income had collapsed due to the corona pandemic, so he accepted the offer from drug dealers and took over the transport for a courier fee of 10,000 euros. To do this, he used a special cavity in the engine of his SUV vehicle.

However, the police got wind of the matter via a telephone surveillance and monitored the transport on German soil. The man was finally arrested in Frankfurt in November 2021. He made a confession in court. However, the criminal court rejected a lower sentence than requested by the defense in view of the relevant previous convictions. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
