Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Steel construction for the construction of the new southern bridge has begun on the new construction of the Salzbach Viaduct on Autobahn 66 near Wiesbaden. Autobahn GmbH announced on Monday in Wiesbaden that the first elements of the approximately 226 steel components would be pre-assembled and welded on site. The total weight adds up to around 2810 tons. According to earlier information, the southern bridge structure in the direction of travel to Frankfurt should be completed by the end of 2023.
There will initially be four temporary lanes – two in each direction. There is currently a gap in the Autobahn 66, and traffic jams regularly form in Wiesbaden during rush hour. After the southern bridge, the northern bridge is to be built in the direction of Rüdesheim. “The aim is to implement the replacement of the A 66 Salzbach Viaduct by mid-2025,” said Autobahn GmbH.
