Karlsruhe/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – Whitsun travel on the autobahns in the southwest is starting: The ADAC expects more holiday traffic than in previous years. The desire to travel is great. On Friday afternoon, the Baden-Württemberg traffic warning service noted a high volume of traffic with the “classic Friday traffic jams” on the A6 motorway near Walldorf, on the A8 near Pforzheim, Ulm and on the Albaufstieg. Most traffic is expected on Saturday due to bed changes.
In addition to Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria is also starting a two-week vacation; therefore, the ADAC estimates the risk of traffic jams in southern Germany to be particularly high. He expects a comparable traffic situation as before the corona pandemic. In 2019, from Friday to Whit Monday, the ADAC traffic database recorded 645 traffic jams with a total length of 1200 kilometers of traffic jams on the motorways in Baden-Württemberg.
In addition to the construction site on the A8 near Pforzheim, the Albaufstieg will be a traffic jam hotspot, estimates the ADAC. In addition, delays are to be expected around the Stuttgart motorway junction. ADAC traffic jam adviser Joachim Baumhauer advises against avoiding traffic jams on side roads. “As long as there is no complete closure, you don’t save time by driving around, but then you’re stuck in traffic on the country road.” Like other ADAC traffic jam consultants, he is back in action with his motorcycle over Pentecost.
