The number of bankruptcies of private individuals in Baden-Württemberg is low compared to the rest of the country. Overall, the number of consumer bankruptcies fell significantly in the first quarter of the year – for one simple reason.

Stuttgart/Hamburg (dpa/lsw) – Nationwide, in the first quarter of the year, the fewest private individuals filed for bankruptcy in the south-west. The credit agency Crif counted 20 private bankruptcies per 100,000 inhabitants in Baden-Württemberg in the first three months of the year. Absolutely it was 2202. Only in Bavaria were there relatively fewer consumer insolvencies (16). The national average was 27 per 100,000 inhabitants. Bremen was the leader (50), followed by Lower Saxony (39) and Hamburg (37).

Overall, there were significantly fewer consumer bankruptcies in the first quarter of 2022 than a year earlier. With 22,166 cases, the number of private bankruptcies was a good 30 percent lower. However, the numbers had risen sharply in the first three months of 2021 as a result of a change in the law, which made it possible to be released from the remaining debt after three instead of six years. According to experts, a number of those affected had therefore waited with their bankruptcy application. If you compare the latest figures with the first quarter of 2020, there is an increase of nine percent.
