For the second time this Formula 1 season, Mick Schumacher has a serious accident. At the Monaco Grand Prix, the Haas driver crashed violently into the barriers, tearing his car in two. After all, the 23-year-old quickly gives the all-clear that he has apparently not injured himself.
Mick Schumacher radioed the most important message to the pits shortly after his serious accident. “I’m okay,” says the 23-year-old, giving the all-clear after the pictures of his completely destroyed car had clearly suggested worse. On the 28th lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, the Haas driver loses control of his car on the narrow street circuit and hits the barriers violently. The VF-22 tears into two parts, on one side is the monocoque with Schumacher, on the other the rear axle and rear wing, a few meters from the rest.
The German had an accident on a drying track, the Formula 1 race was then first neutralized by the safety car and then interrupted with a red flag. The need to clean up in the third sector, in which the debris from the Haas is spread over the entire curve, is too great. However, Schumacher climbs out of the cockpit on his own and is apparently uninjured. Nevertheless, he then goes to the medical center to be examined in detail.
An initial analysis by Sky expert and uncle Ralf Schumacher, himself a six-time Formula 1 race winner, suggests that the young Schumacher hit the rear wheel a few corners earlier, resulting in damage. According to the repetitions, it is conceivable that this damage is the reason why the 23-year-old turns in the swimming pool passage of the street circuit and then hits the course barrier.
Schumacher had already damaged his car in the initial phase of the Grand Prix, which started late due to rain showers. As a result, the front wing had to be replaced, and the Haas driver fell back to the end of the field. For the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher, it is the second serious accident this season, which is why he even missed the race after the crash in qualifying in Saudi Arabia.
