“You will suffer, you will cry, while you get used to losing. Then you will resign yourself when you no longer see me.” The salsa “No one is eternal”, by Tito Rojas, has fired today in tears and pain the Dominican influencer Chantal Jiménez, 25, murdered by her ex-partner, who then took his own life. The Spirit of God funeral home was filled with regrets, but also with indignation.

The sexist murder has shaken the Dominican Republic, a country that last year suffered 58 femicides and that in the current year threatens to break that figure, by counting 19 fatalities. As in the case of Chantal, 19 of the murderers took their own lives last year. And in addition, 42 children were orphaned. The Dominican Congress is working these days on the preparation of the Comprehensive Organic Law against Violence against Women.

One name, Jensy Graciano Cepeda, 35, joined the long list of feminicides in Latin America on Holy Saturday. She shot her former partner in the head. What has filled a good part of Dominican society with indignation is that it was the second attempt: three days before, it failed in its objective.

Last Wednesday, inside his vehicle, he pointed it at her and fired, but the young woman jumped out of the “bus” and ran away. Images of the man with handcuffs on his wrists after the failed attempt circulate on social networks.

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes, because for those who love with their heart and soul there is no such thing as separation,” the murderer wrote on his social networks, the macabre allegation with which he suspected his decision.

Through tears, the victim’s father acknowledged that he had convinced his daughter to withdraw the complaint against Jensy, since he had promised him that he was going to get away from his daughter. “He betrayed me, he went behind and killed me. He was a prisoner in the detachment but we decided to leave him like that, with a release ticket. We both stayed at that, he is loved in the family, we never thought he was going to do me that to me. He killed my girl, what I love most in this world,” the father explained to the local CDN news channel.

Mayra Jiménez, Minister for Women, urged the Prosecutor’s Office to carry out a “deep investigation” into what happened. “We have always stated that no aggressor, who has had a complaint, who has a case in progress or who has had a final sentence should carry a firearm,” she stressed.

Everything points to a “failure in the chain link of the justice system,” as the Ministry for Women reported. “The pertinent measures to protect the victim established in the rules and protocols were not taken. It is necessary for the woman to feel safe and confident in the institutions when making a complaint,” lamented the minister.

Sexist violence has put an end to the promising career of a versatile woman, who had not only become an influencer for the production of content, but also worked as a model, presenter and actress.

After suffering the first attack, Chantal warned on her networks that “there are people who don’t care about hurting. What they want is to feel better, including people close to them. What they want is to be right. So what they have to do is take care of yourself “.

The murderer’s family has partially justified the attitude of a “good boy” who came from California with his wife and children but who began this new relationship. Supposedly, according to the sister, Jensy spied on Chantal, even with microphones in her apartment, and would have discovered that she had another relationship. As if it were the same cursed story heard so many times.
