Rothenschirmbach (dpa/sa) – The valuable wood auction for Saxony-Anhalt’s finest tree trunks brought in around 920,000 euros this year. The average price per cubic meter sold was around 681 euros, as a spokeswoman for the Landeszentrum Wald announced on Monday. Almost 1700 solid cubic meters of the finest tree trunks in Saxony-Anhalt were offered at this year’s timber auction in Bischofswald (Börde) and Rothenschirmbach (Mansfeld-Südharz).

The spokeswoman explained that the most expensive tree at around 2,800 euros per cubic meter and a total proceeds of 12,184 euros was an oak tree from the Altmark forestry operation. A more than 2,500-year-old bog oak that was accidentally discovered in the Elbe fairway generated total proceeds of more than 10,000 euros. According to the ministry, the tree was around 190 years old and felled in the 5th century BC. 16 cubic meters of the tree with an age of 2650 years were offered.

This year’s wood from the 32nd value wood submission came from all forest types in the country. 1,612 solid cubic meters of oak, 40 solid cubic meters of ash, 1.8 solid cubic meters of alder and valuable wood from another five tree species were offered.
