Dresden (dpa/sn) – On the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, an alliance of various initiatives has called for a rally on Dresden’s Neumarkt this Friday (4:30 p.m.). Under the motto “Solidarity with Ukraine”, people want to commemorate the victims of the war in Ukraine and send a sign of their solidarity.
The call was organized by the Cellex Foundation Dresden, the “Dresden Place to be” association, the “Show Attitude” initiative, the “Platform Dresden” association and the Ukrainian Coordination Center Dresden, among others. The organizers expect around 1,500 people on the Neumarkt alone. Among other things, Kiev’s mayor Vitali Klitschko is to be connected via video.
Parallel to the rally, a counter-rally should also take place near the Theaterplatz – among others by the AfD and the right-wing extremist splinter party Freie Sachsen. Among others, the Thuringian AfD boss Björn Höcke is expected on the Theaterplatz.
The city of Dresden expects traffic disruptions in the city center due to the meetings announced on Friday. With rallies, minutes of silence and a minute of peace, the victims of the war in Ukraine will be remembered throughout Saxony on Friday.
