Erfurt (dpa/th) – In Erfurt, the annual state round of the Mathematics Olympiad is taking place for the first time in two years. The Thuringian Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday that 200 Thuringian schoolchildren in grades 5 to 12 are taking on the mathematical challenge this year. The state round will be held on February 24th and 25th, 2023 in the Queen Luise Gymnasium in Erfurt.

Since the beginning of the school year, the students have prevailed in the previous school and regional rounds among a total of 10,000 participants. The best in the state qualify for the final national round, which is scheduled to take place in Berlin in mid-June.

The nationwide Math Olympiad will be held for the 62nd time this year. Around 200,000 students take part every year. In 2021 and 2022, the competition was largely held online due to the pandemic.
