Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The Verdi union wants to meet with public sector employees in Magdeburg today for an all-day warning strike. Among other things, employees of the clinic, the city administration and waste management were called, said Verdi. But employees in other districts and cities were also called. The strikers want to meet from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the strike bar in Magdeburg.
Last week, around 500 people took part in a day-long warning strike in Halle. Children’s day care centers, administrations and savings banks were among those affected by the work stoppages. With the warning strikes, the unions say they want to increase the pressure on employers in the ongoing wage dispute in the public sector.
The trade unions are demanding 10.5 percent more income from employers, but at least 500 euros more for the approximately 2.5 million employees in the federal and local public services. Municipal employers reject this as economically unmanageable. The second wage round is planned for February 22nd and 23rd in Potsdam.
