Erfurt (dpa/th) – The President of the Thuringian District Council, Martina Schweinsburg (CDU), has sharply criticized the results of the refugee summit by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). The summit ended “without any results”, said Schweinsburg on Friday in Erfurt. In view of the challenges for the municipalities, this is disillusioning. “We’re ready to give our compassion and human warmth, but we can’t heat, buy food, or house people with it,” said Schweinsburg. She called for “greater involvement of the federal government”. Above all, you need money.

Thuringia’s migration minister, Doreen Denstädt, welcomed the fact that all integration ministers would be involved. “Everyone understood that a challenge like this can only be solved together,” said Denstädt. She called the summit a “good start to get into the work process”. She mentioned that people who stayed in Germany should get an apprenticeship as soon as possible. “This is a very important topic for Thuringia.”

The Thuringian CDU parliamentary group called on Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) to make refugee policy a top priority. “The Thuringian municipalities need relief and, above all, answers from the state government to the most pressing questions: how are things going with refugee accommodation, financing and coordination?” said the migration policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Stefan Schard. The refugee summit did not produce any substantive results and did not live up to expectations. Schard demanded that Ramelow bring the issue to the State Chancellery.

At the refugee summit on Thursday in Berlin, the federal, state and local authorities agreed on better coordination on the accommodation and care of refugees. A digital “dashboard” for migration should ensure transparency down to the district level. However, there were no agreements about money from the federal government.
