Erfurt (dpa/th) – The Thuringian Ministry of Social Affairs has called for applications for the 29th Thuringian Animal Welfare Prize. Citizens, associations and clubs can propose exemplary initiatives for the award by May 30 at the latest, as the ministry announced on Tuesday in Erfurt. Among other things, the prize is intended to honor private individuals, groups of people as well as farms or animal welfare projects for their commitment to promoting animal welfare.
A total of up to three prizes will be awarded in three areas this year: for charitable animal protection, which is about the extraordinary commitment to housing, looking after and caring for abandoned animals and found animals, for the species-appropriate husbandry of farm animals and for development suitable alternative methods to animal experiments. The proposals are evaluated by the Thuringian Animal Welfare Advisory Board. The prizes are rewarded with a total of 3,000 euros for charitable animal welfare, 3,000 euros for the welfare of farm animals and 6,000 euros for alternative methods for animal experiments.
