Munich (dpa / lby) – If you want to drive into the mountains at the turn of the year, you should have a lot of patience, according to the ADAC. The association announced on Tuesday that traffic jams on the motorways and trunk roads in the direction of the Alps, such as the A95 and B2 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, can already be expected on New Year’s Eve due to holiday traffic in Bavaria. On New Year’s Day, return travel to the north will be added because the holidays ended in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, among other places.
Beyond the southern border of the Free State, winter holidaymakers should also plan more time on the roads, the association advises. There could be traffic jams on the Tauernautobahn and the Brenner route in Austria as well as on the Gotthard route in Switzerland. Border controls could require additional patience from drivers.
