Leipzig (dpa / sn) – Visitors to the Leipzig Zoo can take a look at the offspring in the herd of elephants. The elephant temple Ganesha Mandir is now open again, as the zoo announced on Friday. An elephant calf was born on Wednesday night, three months ago the bull elephant Akito. Both are well protected by the parent association around Grandma Kewa in the running hall, it was said.

“It’s fantastic to see how the experienced matriarch takes care of her two daughters, who are raising calves for the first time, and intervenes to support them when there is unrest in the herd,” said zoo director Jörg Junhold. In the coming year, two more births are planned for the elephants in Leipzig.
