Schwerin/Stavenhagen (dpa/mv) – The parcel stations of an Internet mail order company in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are increasingly being targeted by thieves shortly before Christmas. As police spokesman said on Wednesday, at least seven such stations were attacked and cleared, some of them several times, within two weeks. Stations in Schwerin-Krebsförden, Hagenow, Stavenhagen and in Demmin (Mecklenburg Lake District) were affected. The damage to the systems, which were set up within easy reach of supermarkets or petrol stations, is estimated at at least 50,000 euros.
The damage to packages could not be accurately estimated. In most cases, customers who want to collect their package noticed the break-ins because the facilities stopped working. The police suspect a connection between the crimes.
