Göppingen (dpa / lsw) – Hartmut Mayerhoffer remains coach of the handball Bundesliga team for the time being even after Frisch Auf Göppingen fell to third place in the table. “We analyzed the situation again today. The chemistry between the team and the coach is right,” said Göppingen’s managing director Gerd Hofele on Friday of the German Press Agency. “We give the whole thing a chance and continue to work with Hartmut.” The team also “expressly” spoke out in favor of further cooperation with the 53-year-old coach.

However, Hofele did not want to say how many opportunities Mayerhoffer would still have to get Göppingen back on the road to success. “It depends on the development. Handball is a result sport. We simply have to improve significantly,” he emphasized. This applies in particular to the exploitation of opportunities.

The Swabians lost the basement duel against the table penultimate GWD Minden in their own hall last Thursday with 26:29 (14:13) and have only won three games in 13 season games so far. The lead over the relegation zone melted to three points.

Mayerhoffer came to Göppingen in 2018 and led the traditional club to fifth place last season and thus to the European League. The team will play there next Tuesday (8.45 p.m.) at Montpellier HB in France. On Sunday in a week’s time, Frisch Auf will play at Bergisches HC in the Bundesliga.
