The Rhine is a busy waterway, and passenger ships are also on the move. An emergency is now being simulated in Strasbourg with French and German rescue workers.
Strasbourg/Kehl (dpa/lsw) – Rescuers and firefighters from Germany and France are rehearsing the evacuation of a cruise ship on the Rhine in Strasbourg today. In the large-scale exercise, more than 100 passengers are to be brought ashore by air and water, according to the prefecture of the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace.
According to the information, the fire brigade from Kehl in Baden (Ortenaukreis) is involved. The border town is in the immediate vicinity of Strasbourg on the right bank of the Rhine. Large cruise ships also operate on the Rhine in the region outside of the summer season.
