Sachsenheim (dpa/lsw) – Criminals emotionally blackmailed a pensioner from Sachsenheim (Ludwigsburg district) with a shock phone call and stole several thousand euros. He was led to believe that an acquaintance had had a serious accident and that he now had to pay bail to keep her acquaintance from jail. According to the police, the conversation lasted around two hours on Friday – “it’s grueling,” said a spokeswoman.
The perpetrators are trained and act strategically: “You notice when someone jumps on the scam. But as soon as there is a critical query, the conversation is usually broken off.”
Convinced that he was helping someone in need, the man went to the bank, withdrew several thousand euros and gave the sum to an unknown woman. The fraud was discovered when the pensioner’s wife contacted the actual acquaintance.
