Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – After a lengthy renovation, the Augustinian Museum in Freiburg is showing the exhibition “Fascination Italy” in the reopened picture gallery. On display are 34 paintings by artists such as Franz Xaver Winterhalter, Anselm Feuerbach, Emil Lugo, Johann Baptist Kirner and Max Wilhelm Roman. The museum announced this on Thursday in Freiburg.
Mediterranean landscapes and the strong colors of “Bella Italia” fascinated the artists of the 19th century. The longing for Italy was widespread, artists explored the areas around Rome and Naples.
The exhibition therefore has three focal points: everyday life, landscape and people. The show is presented on the top floor of the Augustinian Museum, which was inaccessible to visitors for almost four years. The museum in the city center is housed in a former monastery church.
