Bad Urach (dpa / lsw) – A swarm of hornets stung at least ten hikers at the Urach waterfall. This was announced by the fire department on Wednesday. A woman was stabbed in the neck and taken to hospital as a precaution.
The fire brigade commander in charge of the operation assumes that the hornets, which are protected species, were irritated before the incident on Sunday afternoon. Walkers would have told him that children had hit the nest with a stick. “These are usually peaceful insects. But if their nest is attacked, they will defend it to the death.” Even the fire truck was attacked by the hornets. “It will be different for a moment. I was glad that the windows were closed,” said the fire brigade commander.
Since the nest is right next to the hiking trail, the fire brigade has blocked the path for the time being – to protect the hikers and the hornets. It is not yet clear when the path will be accessible again.
