Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) – The three young female tigers of the Heidelberg Zoo will leave the zoo by the end of April. The almost two-year-old Sumatran tigers Dumai, Jambi and Sabah are going to Ireland, France and Hungary. “We are very happy that we were able to find a suitable place for everyone,” said the curator for mammals, Sandra Reichler, according to the announcement on Thursday. All three zoos have a lot of experience with keeping big cats.
When choosing a new home, not only the needs of the tigers and the receiving zoos were carefully considered, but also the genetics of the animals to ensure good breeding. The animals are part of a breeding program. Reichler hopes that the two parent animals Karis and Tebo will have offspring again after the three sisters have moved out.
