Munich (dpa / lby) – Bavarian hospitals are currently receiving more patients with corona than at the peak of the last major wave of infection. Even the peak of the delta wave is surpassed, according to data from the State Agency for Health and Food Safety. As of Monday, the number of hospitalizations within seven days was 1356. That’s a good 100 more than at the delta peak. On Saturday the value was even higher at 1494 – it often falls over the weekend.
Mainly, however, it is about patients on normal wards. The number of cases in intensive care units is currently rising steeply, but according to the intensive care register 262 (as of Monday) it is still well below the more than 1000 at the peak of the delta wave, during which the intensive care units in Bavaria were overloaded.
The development is also being observed in the Bavarian Ministry of Health: The increase is also tying up more staff in the normal wards. “In addition, according to feedback from the practice, clinic staff are currently experiencing significant absences due to illness and isolation, the intensity of which has increased in the recent past.”
However, as the Ministry of Health explains, it cannot be answered precisely whether the patients counted in the statistics come to the hospital with or because of Corona.
