Fürth (dpa / lby) – For the new Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger, the proximity to his Swabian homeland was also a factor for the job in Franconia. “After six years abroad, it’s good if you can reach your mother a little faster and my wife’s parents too. That was one of the factors,” said the 55-year-old after his first training session in Fürth. “But I’m here to win as many games as possible as quickly as possible.”
Zorniger (55) moved abroad after positions at SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart in 2016. After Bröndby IF in Denmark, he took over Apollon Limassol in Cyprus in 2021 and became champion there.
In Fürth he was now the successor to Swiss Marc Schneider, who was on leave. He will make his debut as coach of the second division bottom team on Friday evening (6.30 p.m.) at home in the duel between the two Bundesliga teams who have been relegated against Arminia Bielefeld.
