Barcelona (dpa / lby) – FC Bayern does not have good memories of the referee scheduled for the Champions League game at FC Barcelona. Englishman Anthony Taylor will lead the group game at the Camp Nou stadium on Wednesday evening (9 p.m. / Sky). Taylor (44) was also in action when Munich lost 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals at Villarreal in April. In the second leg, the record German soccer champions were eliminated with a 1-1 draw.
In the first leg, Villarreal’s defender Pau Torres hit Bayern star Leon Goretzka in the face with his elbow in the closing stages, but Taylor didn’t award Bayern Munich a penalty. Coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke of a brutal use of the arm, but did not want to rate the action in the press conference as a “crystal clear penalty”.
The memories of another game that was directed by Taylor are certainly better. The Munich team won the Supercup duel with FC Sevilla in September 2020 2-1 after extra time.
