Nuremberg (dpa / lby) – The SPD in the Bavarian state parliament is calling for one billion euros for housing and more tenant protection. “In order for more affordable apartments to be built in Bavaria, all the stops must be pulled out,” said parliamentary group leader Florian von Brunn on Tuesday at the start of the autumn meeting of SPD members of the state parliament in Nuremberg.
The parliamentary group accuses the Bavarian state government of acting half-heartedly when it comes to housing construction: although there is a building land mobilization law, the conversion of rental apartments into condominiums has not been prohibited. Bavaria’s Minister of Construction Christian Bernreiter (CSU) is trying to sell half a beer as a measure, emphasized von Brunn. According to the SPD parliamentary group leader, this ban must be implemented immediately.
Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) also criticized the lack of social housing in Germany: “This is a trend that we must reverse by all means.” The federal government has therefore made two billion euros available to the states this year alone. The Free State is therefore obliged to increase its financial resources for publicly subsidized housing.
In addition, the SPD parliamentary group advocates the introduction of a building land tax in Bavaria. “If plots of land are simply not built on because the owner prefers to continue speculating on even higher prices, he has to pay a higher property tax,” explained the SPD parliamentary group leader.
