Munich (dpa/lby) – October 2022 is the warmest October in Bavaria since weather records began in 1881. With an average temperature of 12.1 degrees, the previous record from October 2001 was exceeded by 0.5 degrees, said a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) on Monday. In the Munich city area and in the municipality of Wielenbach near Lake Starnberg (Weilheim-Schongau district), there have been four summer days with temperatures of over 25 degrees this month.
Overall, people in Bavaria could have enjoyed more than 130 hours of sunshine this month, according to a DWD statement. Nationwide, the Free State with the average temperature of 12.1 degrees was the coldest federal state together with Thuringia. But that’s normal because of the many cool mountain regions in Bavaria, said the DWD spokesman.
The mean temperature of 12.1 degrees measured in Bavaria in October 2022 is also four degrees above the value of the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990.
