Wiesbaden/Berlin (dpa/lhe) – The Hessian Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth (CDU) is calling for stricter restrictions on illegal migration to Europe and Germany. “It shouldn’t just be about how more and more people can be accommodated,” Beuth explained at the refugee summit on Thursday in Berlin. The summit in the Federal Ministry of the Interior must send out a clear signal “that we can only take care of those in need of protection if we clearly and effectively limit illegal migration at the same time”. The federal government must correct its migration policy.
Significant progress is needed on the subject of repatriations, especially of those who are dangerous and offenders. The federal states and local authorities must be financially able to continue shouldering the tasks assigned to them in terms of accommodation over the long term. “The funds announced by the federal government will not be sufficient for 2023,” explained Beuth. A commitment from the federal government to assume the costs is also necessary for the coming year.
Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) wants to make proposals to the federal states and local authorities for the accommodation of refugees at a refugee summit in her house this Thursday. She has invited representatives of the federal states and the municipal umbrella organizations to do so. In doing so, she also responded to calls for help from some municipalities.
