Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – In the Bergen-Enkheim district of Frankfurt, the post of town clerk will be reassigned this Thursday (7 p.m.). The new town clerk is announced at a reading. This is reminiscent of Annemarie (“Ammes”) Schneider, the wife of the prize founder Franz Joseph Schneider. He was a member of “Group 47”. The new laureate will take office in 2022.
In 1974, the Stadtschreiberpreis was the first of its kind in the German-speaking world. The name comes from the fact that the formerly independent city of Bergen-Enkheim was only incorporated into Frankfurt in 1977. A jury of writers and citizens of Bergen-Enkheim decides on the winner. The price includes the right of residence in the house “An der Oberpforte 4” for one year and prize money of 20,000 euros.
