Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Even in the second year of Corona, a higher mortality rate was registered in Hesse than before the outbreak of the pandemic. A total of 72,300 people died last year, 8.4 percent more than in 2019, the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden said on Monday. Compared to the first year of the pandemic, 2020, there was also an increase of 3.2 percent.
The highest number of deaths was almost 7,900 in January, which was 30.5 percent more than in the same month last year. Mortality was also significantly higher in June and November 2021 than in the respective month a year earlier.
