Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – According to the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences, many foods that are offered especially for children and are often colorful are unhealthy and not recommended. This is the result of a study by the Department of Agricultural Economics and Food Sciences, in which 103 products from two markets in the region were examined, as the university announced on Tuesday. Fruit, vegetable and cereal products, children’s milk and milk products as well as sausage and meat products were examined. Sweets and pastries were not examined.

Ultimately, only less than eight percent of the products could be classified as “recommended”, it said. Most other children’s products contained too much salt, sugar or fat. This is particularly critical, since eating habits are significantly shaped in childhood. Consuming such foods increases the risk of childhood obesity and related diseases. The consumer center MV was also involved in the study.
