Stralsund (dpa / mv) – Because of a life-threatening knife attack on a man in Stralsund, a 33-year-old car salesman has been imprisoned for ten years. As a spokesman for the district court in Stralsund said on Friday, the accused from Greifswald was found guilty on Thursday of attempted murder, attempted aggravated robbery and bodily harm. The convict acted out of greed and malice.

The knife attack happened on April 6th in an apartment building in Stralsund. The perpetrator had known through a sales pitch that the then 58-year-old victim had a lot of cash at home. The convict had disguised himself with a carnival mask. After ringing the bell and opening the door, he stabbed the victim about 20 times. The tenant fought back and screamed loudly, so that neighbors came to help. The masked perpetrator fled. The victim barely survived.

The police arrested the 33-year-old two days later. The convict had stated in court that he had gambling and other debts of around 100,000 euros. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
