The Naval Engineering School Parow near Stralsund has received a special honor. New recruits also made their vows on Thursday – at a special time, as Prime Minister Schwesig emphasized.
Stralsund (dpa / mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) honored the Parow Naval Engineering School near Stralsund with the flag of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. “In Germany it is the highest honor that a federal state can bestow on a military association,” she said on Thursday at the award ceremony on the Alter Markt in Stralsund.
The school is the largest and most modern training facility in the German Navy. “All naval technicians from Germany are trained there.” Civilian professions are also trained here. The school is one of the largest employers in the region, emphasized Schwesig.
According to the Bundeswehr, the flag ribbon was last awarded to the frigate “Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” in MV in 2015. Following the award ceremony, the swearing-in ceremony and the solemn pledge for recruits took place.
In addition to military tasks, the servicewomen and men and civilian employees of the naval engineering school are distinguished by their commitment to Stralsund and the region, emphasized Schwesig. They support festivals and events, for example, or collect donations for social clubs and institutions in the city. Soldiers are also supporting the authorities during the corona pandemic.
Referring to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Schwesig said the recruits took their vows in troubled times. They are taking on great responsibility and doing the country a great service. “You have earned our respect and recognition for that.”
