Neubrandenburg/Potsdam (dpa/mv) – The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms for the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Rügen and Vorpommern-Greifswald. “Among other things, widespread serious damage to buildings is possible. Trees can be uprooted and roof tiles, branches or objects can fall,” said the DWD in Potsdam on Saturday. Local flooding on streams and small rivers is also possible.

The weather service called on people in the affected region to close windows and doors and secure outdoor objects. Anyone who is out and about despite the forecast thunderstorm should keep their distance from buildings, trees and high-voltage lines. However, it is best not to be outdoors.

On the website of the DWD it was also said that narrowly limited heavy rain of around 20 to 25 liters per square meter and gusts of wind of around 60 kilometers per hour and small-grain hail are possible during the course of the day.
