Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a woman has again become the victim of brazen love scammers via the Internet. As a police spokeswoman said on Monday, it is a 35-year-old woman from the Mecklenburg Lake District. She lost around 13,000 euros in six months through this scam.
The supposed lover had posed as a 44-year-old dentist from the USA. He was very persistent about friend requests on social networks and later declared that he wanted to move in with her. But she should bear the flight and other costs.
When the woman took out a loan but after a while became suspicious and wanted to end the relationship, the scammer blackmailed her. He also threatened to publish a nude photo that she had sent him if she stopped paying. The woman filed a complaint. The police are investigating extortion and fraud.
