Düsseldorf/Monheim (dpa/lnw) – According to the city, the Danish artist Jeppe Hein designed his first playground in Monheim am Rhein. “Playground Eierplatz” should not only be a playground, but also a meeting place, he said on Friday.
Colorful benches and street lamps change their shape in bizarre curves and become slides, climbing objects and swings. The playground is complemented by a water pavilion, which is also accessible and, according to Hein, is designed in the shape of several eggs. According to the city of Monheim, the new playground should inspire children in particular, so that they can playfully come into contact with art.
Born in Copenhagen, the artist has lived in Berlin for many years and designs interactive sculptures for public spaces. In his own words, the 48-year-old wants to create places of encounter and exchange. The installation is part of the creation of a collection of objects by renowned artists in the city’s public space. These include works by Markus Lüpertz, Tony Cragg and Mischa Kuball. Monheim had the highest trade tax revenue in NRW in 2021 and is financially sound.
