Cologne (dpa / lnw) – Critics of the football World Cup in Qatar gathered in Cologne on Sunday for a rally. The alliance “Boycott Qatar” as the organizer spoke of 200 participants, the police of 180. Because fewer participants came than expected, an initially planned demonstration was canceled at short notice. A spokesman for the alliance was nevertheless satisfied: “We have set a good sign and attracted attention,” he said. The “Boycott Qatar” alliance is supported by numerous initiatives, clubs and restaurants. With regard to the World Cup, Qatar has been criticized for, among other things, human rights violations and the treatment of workers from other countries.
