Cologne (dpa/lnw) – Customs confiscated five kilograms of cocaine as a base for painted pictures at Cologne/Bonn Airport. The high-purity cocaine was pressed very flat for camouflage and then painted, said customs spokesman Jens Ahland on Tuesday in Cologne. “The amount of these cocaine pictures alone would have given a single dose to as many people as could fit in the packed 1. FC Köln stadium.”
Drugs are currently being found in packages at the airport almost every night. Drugs worth around 2.9 million euros have been found there since mid-June alone. In addition to heroin and crystal meth in books and ecstasy tablets in protein powder packs, hashish was also hidden between children’s toys.
More than 100 drug officers are on duty at the airport every night. The origin of the packages rarely allows conclusions, said Ahland. “Some of this really comes from countries where you would never expect it, so we don’t rule out any routes. We really focus more on how the goods are described, what clues we might have, but of course inspector coincidence also plays one Role.” The drugs as well as the hiding places will be destroyed after the investigation is completed.
