Grevenbroich (dpa / lnw) – A 44-year-old cyclist was hit and killed by a regional train at a level crossing near Grevenbroich on Monday. According to testimonies, he is said to have tried to cross the tracks despite the closed barriers, said a spokesman for the federal police. He died at the scene of the accident.

According to federal police, the man was thrown onto the hood of a car. An emergency chaplain took care of eyewitnesses to the accident, such as the train driver. The route remained closed for several hours after the accident in the district of Kapellen on Monday morning.
