Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The tax offices in North Rhine-Westphalia will be keeping a Christmas peace from Saturday and will no longer send any unpleasant mail to tax debtors. Enforcements and tax audits would then usually only be initiated again in the new year, Finance Minister Marcus Optendrenk (CDU) announced on Wednesday.
“The many simultaneous crises of our time are a burden for everyone in the country,” said Optendrenk. “It is therefore particularly important to me right now that we stick to this good tradition. So that all citizens in North Rhine-Westphalia can spend the Christmas season as peacefully as possible.”
However, the Christmas peace does not apply if claims become statute-barred during this time.
