Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – After its deep fall in the corona pandemic, North Rhine-Westphalia’s hotel industry is recovering. Last year, the accommodation providers in the federal state had 20.3 million guests and thus 83.4 percent more than in 2021, as the state statistics office IT.NRW announced on Friday in Düsseldorf. However, the industry is not yet at the pre-crisis level, in 2019 there were 24.3 million guests – compared to then there was a minus of 16.4 percent in 2022.
The consequences of the corona pandemic hit the hotel industry particularly hard, and the accommodation facilities were even closed at times. They also noticed that there were far fewer leisure events or conferences and trade fairs, which meant that far fewer hotel rooms were needed than before.
