Halle (dpa/sa) – Several hundred people took to the streets in Halle on Thursday evening. With a demonstration, they followed a call by the alliance “Halle gegen Rechts” to protest against a planned rally by the AfD. The alliance estimated that up to 700 people took part in the demonstration. The police were initially unable to provide any information on the number of participants. A spokesman for the alliance said that in a city like Halle, where there was a right-wing extremist attack in 2019, a party like the AfD should not be allowed to spread its ideas.
The party exploits people’s fears and worries about the war in Ukraine and inflation for its ideological purposes, said the spokesman for Halle gegen Rechts. According to the police, the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt had registered a rally under the motto “Peace, Freedom, Prosperity”.
