Dresden (dpa/sn) – Experts from the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) continue to scrutinize the stolen and partly resurfaced loot from the Green Vault. “The assessment process is ongoing,” said an SKD spokeswoman on Tuesday when asked. There are about a restorer and collection manager, it said. The SKD did not provide any information on where exactly the jewels and pieces of jewelery are examined. It also remained unclear when possible results should be presented. According to a spokesman, the looted items have already been forensically examined in the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Saxony.
Around three years after the burglary in the Green Vault in Dresden, the investigators found most of the loot last weekend. 31 individual parts were secured in Berlin on Saturday night. The jewels’ return was apparently preceded by a deal between a defense attorney and the judiciary. It was “talked between the defense and the public prosecutor’s office, including the court, about a possible agreement on the procedure and the repatriation of looted items that were still there,” it said officially.
However, the trial of the spectacular theft of jewels from Dresden’s Green Vault treasury with possible details will not continue until next year. A hearing scheduled for this Tuesday was postponed to January 10, 2023 due to the illness of a judge.
