Dresden (dpa/sn) – With around 1.5 million euros annually from the state program “Cosmopolitan Saxony”, the Ministry of Social Affairs is promoting democracy work in the municipalities from January 2023. As the ministry in Dresden announced on Thursday, each district and each independent city can support a regional network for three years with up to 120,000 euros per year. Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) said that the regional networks should support democracy work as an exchange platform and information hub and also give those involved on the ground strength and courage.
The Corona years had cost civil society strength, said Köpping. The extreme right, as the greatest threat to democracy in Saxony, has benefited from the current social situation. That is why sustainable structural support with the regional networks is so important.
The state program “Cosmopolitan Saxony” promotes projects that strengthen the democratic culture and the free democratic basic order or help to reduce “group-related enmity”.
