Despite inflation this year, many people in Saxony do not want to miss out on the Christmas roast in the restaurant. The reservations give the hospitality industry hope for a good Advent season. However, prices and opening hours can vary significantly.
Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony’s gastronomy is optimistic about the Christmas season. “The expectations of good business are high – even if there are still a few worries and problems,” said the general manager of the Saxon Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), Axel Klein, on request. The planning security provided by the electricity and gas price brake would have reassured most companies.
“On the holidays, the reservations in the restaurants are already very good, in the days before there is still room,” emphasized Klein. But that is also because many people are currently taking their time and want to make decisions at short notice. “There have also been better years when it comes to booking company parties.” In addition, there was still a lack of international guests, especially in the big cities and tourist strongholds. “But you can clearly feel the joy of a carefree feast.”
According to Klein, planning and calculation is currently a major challenge for restaurateurs. “People have less money in their pockets due to inflation. It’s important to find the right prices for the menus.” The costs of ingredients such as meat, fish, vegetables and side dishes have increased, and the staff is also not so easy to find. “Some companies have already adjusted their opening hours to work more efficiently,” said Klein.
In addition, the austerity measures of 20 percent planned by the federal government are a problem. “In the reference year 2021, most companies were closed for almost six months anyway due to the corona and have already saved a lot of energy as a result. Saving something again is a big challenge,” said Klein.
