Several people were killed Thursday, September 28, in a double shooting in Rotterdam, police said. An armed man in combat gear opened fire in an apartment in the Dutch city, then stormed into a nearby medical center. Fires broke out in both locations but were able to be extinguished.
“Both shootings in Rotterdam resulted in deaths. We will inform the family and relatives first and give them more explanations later,” city police said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Half an hour later, the police clarified, still on X, that “a 32-year-old resident of Rotterdam was arrested. He is suspected of being involved in both incidents,” and is believed to have acted alone. The motive for the attack remains unknown, local news agency ANP reported, citing police.
“Combat” clothing
Footage at the scene showed people leaving the hospital, including doctors, as police in bulletproof vests entered. Police earlier said the suspect was wearing “combat” clothing, was tall, with dark hair and was carrying a backpack.
In addition, the police have asked people who may have images of the shootings to send them to them, in order to help them in their investigation.
