Pedro Sanchez endorses the cuban regime in his trip to the island
in Cuba, Sánchez and Human Rights
The U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Carlos Trujillo, he stated this Thursday in an interview with Efe that the recent visit to Cuba of the president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, it sends a positive message.
Asked about what message he sent that visit, Trujillo said: “I don’t Think it sends a positive one. If you are a country that respects democracy and human rights, you have to support them all the time and not selectively,” he said.
Sanchez visited Havana in November that was the first official trip to the island of a head of the Spanish Government in 32 years and with an agenda that included a meeting with the cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and a meeting with the civil society, but not with the dissent.
In Cuba, Sanchez hoped that her trip would serve as a “down payment” of a State visit of the kings the next year, when you meet 500 years of the foundation of Havana.
The ex-U.S. president Barack Obama (2009-2017) and his cuban counterpart, Raúl Castro, began at the end of 2014, a process of melting that led to the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
That process of normalisation of relations came to a standstill shortly after the arrival of the american Presidency by Donald Trump in January 2017.
With Trump in the White House, the united states has restricted travel of its citizens to the island, has prohibited transactions with enterprises linked to the military, cuban and blame Cuba, of some supposed “attacks” that hurt the health of 26 of its diplomats in Havana.
