Erfurt (dpa/th) – The number of permits for new apartments increased significantly in Thuringia last year. A total of 4,547 apartments have been released for construction. The State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Erfurt that there were 784 permits for apartments or almost 21 percent more than in the previous year.

Most of the building permits were in the state capital of Erfurt with 850 new apartments, as well as in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, in the Ilm district and in Jena and Gera. The range there was between almost 500 and more than 300 new apartments. On the other hand, only a few were to be created in the Kyffhäuser district at 70 and in the Hildburghausen district at 58.

A good third of the planned new living space was single-family homes – a total of 1567. Rising interest rates and higher construction costs could have already had an impact. Compared to 2021, there were 213 fewer building permits for homes – a decrease of twelve percent. There was an opposite trend, albeit with significantly lower numbers, for two-family houses. 242 were approved, almost 19 percent more than in 2021.

The number of apartment permits in multi-storey buildings – usually rental or owner-occupied apartments – was 2310 – with a 39 percent increase, that was more than 2021.
