Erfurt/Hermsdorf (dpa/th) – The planned further refugee accommodation in Hermsdorf (Saale-Holzland district) should relieve the initial reception center in Suhl this year if possible. The aim is to put the accommodation into operation by mid-December, said a spokeswoman for the Thuringian Ministry of Migration on Friday. The MDR had previously reported about it. Up to 500 people are to be accommodated in Hermsdorf, the maximum occupancy is 750. There had previously been several tenders for the operation of the accommodation, which had been unsuccessful.
The initial reception facility in Suhl has been at capacity for some time. Accommodation in Eisenberg, which was actually intended for Afghan local workers, is already being used as a buffer to cushion the great need for accommodation. According to the spokeswoman, Migration Minister Dirk Adams (Greens) absolutely wants to avoid accommodating refugees in tents. The state administration office had mentioned this as an option if there were capacity bottlenecks.
