Erfurt (dpa/th) – Thuringia’s nursing homes were among the largest corona hotspots nationwide during the pandemic. This emerges from the care report presented by Barmer Krankenkasse in Erfurt on Tuesday. According to this, at the height of the crisis in January 2021, more than 15 percent of the residents in Thuringia had contracted Covid 19. There was only a higher value of 18.3 percent during the second wave in Saxony. The infection rate in the nursing homes in Thuringia was almost twice as high as nationwide (eight percent) and five times higher than the average for the Thuringian population as a whole.
