Compact dimensions, but very comfortable with a sun terrace, loft bedroom and comfortable staircase: The Hymer Venture S is the series version of the future study presented in 2019. And it’s coming earlier than announced – it’s now likely to be admired at the Caravan Salon. And also its very proud price.
When Hymer presented the Vision Venture concept study at its last appearance to date at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, Hymer boss Christian Bauer said he gave “a look at the camper future of the year 2025”. But the future of campers begins today for the traditional manufacturer from Bad Waldsee.
Because the series version of the advanced motorhome in the compact 6.45 meter format based on the Mercedes Sprinter is celebrating its world premiere at the 61st edition of the Düsseldorf industry summit (27 August to 4 September) and is likely to become one of the big stars advance the exhibition. However, it is not only the completely new living space concept that is remarkable, but also the price. Because the Venture S is an exclusive vehicle with a basic price of 225,000 euros.
The Hymer Venture S serves exactly the motorhome segment that is currently experiencing by far the greatest popularity: a narrow, partially integrated vehicle that is only 2.16 meters wide and looks like a camper van, but offers the highest possible level of living comfort on board. Christian Bauer speaks of “a new category of mobile home that we were inspired by the needs and ideas of the vanlife community”. The outstanding feedback on the future study encouraged the manufacturer to implement it in such a short development time.
In fact, almost all innovations of the vision venture concept were saved for series production. It starts with the eye-catching, rear-opening pop-up roof with textile side walls, which consists of an innovative two-chamber system and can be inflated within three minutes thanks to a powerful compressor. Below it is a spacious sleeping loft with a lengthwise double bed, ambient lighting, shelves and charging options for smartphones and a magnificent panoramic view to the rear. The pneumatic roof is designed to protect against noise, light and temperature differences while sleeping. The degree of firmness of the mattress can also be set individually via the Hymer Connect app.
Climbing skills are not required for the ascent to the upper floor. A lateral comfort staircase with illuminated steps allows a comfortable way up. Compartments integrated into the steps offer additional storage space. Salon visitors will also discover a similar solution with an inflatable alcove and staircase at Bürstner, also a brand of the Erwin Hymer Group, in the Lyseo Gallery.
The idea of ??a tiny house on wheels was also implemented on the ground floor with many clever ideas. A real eye-catcher is the lounge area in the rear. Two longitudinal benches with a table and a bamboo tabletop form the seating area, which is surrounded on three sides by an “infinity screen made of real glass”, as it is officially called, i.e. with almost frameless windows on the one hand offers a 180-degree all-round view of nature, on the other hand ensures a light-flooded living area. And the highlight is the two-part tailgate, the lower part of which is designed as a private sun deck with a yacht look.
Cooking takes place on a modern kitchen unit with matt black fittings and unusual materials. The metal surface of the worktop surprises with its soft feel and matt surface, which not only prevents annoying light reflections, but is also resistant to fingerprints and scratches. The tile mirror as a mineral composite based on stone flour can hardly be distinguished from conventional tiles. And the chic multifunctional wall with mounting rails can be individually designed with hooks, shelves and containers.
Thanks to a slate-look swivel wall, the convertible Vario bathroom can be transformed into a larger wet room with a floor-level shower in just a few simple steps. The Venture S offers a home office for those who not only need to relax but also work on the road. The worktable integrated in the side wall behind the passenger seat, together with the flexible skylight, can be set up as an individual workplace in just a few seconds.
Three 115-watt solar panels on the roof of the Venture S as well as six 230-volt sockets and eight USB ports in the vehicle ensure that the batteries are fully charged. In combination with the Hymer Smart Battery System 2.0, 320 Ah lithium batteries and a standard inverter, travelers and workers should be able to travel energy self-sufficiently for up to ten days. A 120 liter fresh water reservoir would then also have to suffice.
The Venture S occupants need not be afraid of rough terrain, because the motorhome not only has an off-road look, but is also actually all-terrain thanks to the basic vehicle. The debutant is delivered as standard with the Mercedes Sprinter in the all-wheel drive version and a 140 kW/190 hp diesel engine and has a number of assistance systems and the MBUX multimedia system on board.
Hymer is no slouch when it comes to on-board electronics either. The vehicle is compatible with Hymer Connect. Components can be centrally controlled via smartphone or 7-inch touch display. A mobile Sonos smart speaker can be flexibly attached to the wall panels. And for the first time, the Bad Waldseer are offering an optional projector including screen and wall mounting for film evenings or private public viewing at the campsite.
The only fly in the ointment, apart from the hefty price above 200,000 euros, is the weight: the off-road motorhome no longer fits into the 3.5-ton class. The permissible total weight of 4.1 tons still leaves enough room for the payload.
